Wii’s Story:

Housekeeping Star Shines in Banff

Employee Spotlight

Wii Phaiboonyingyot knows that the secret to high-calibre housekeeping is to support a high-calibre team.

And as the Housekeeping Supervisor at Banff’s Ptarmigan Inn, her collaborative spirit shines as brightly as the carefully polished surfaces of the hotel.

Wii says the best part of her job is the strong camaraderie she shares with her co-workers, and the opportunities to meet colleagues and guests from around the world.

“That’s most important for me – everyone is close and friendly. We solve problems fast and all departments work together nicely,” she says.

Born and raised in Thailand, Wii embarked on an adventure to Canada in 2010, eager to experience new cultures and learn English for the first time.

After falling in love with Banff National Park, she joined the Banff Lodging Co. team in 2011, starting out as a Housekeeping Attendant with The Fox Hotel & Suites. Moving to The Ptarmigan Inn in 2012, she was soon promoted to the role of Housekeeping Supervisor –and she has continued to shine ever since.

“We focus on quality, how to make things nicely. If someone is a hard worker, it is okay if they have no housekeeping experience. We’re a very busy team, but we help new staff learn at their own pace. We want staff to feel comfortable,” Wii says.

In 2013, Wii tucked and folded her way to victory at the annual Banff Lake Louise Housekeeping Olympics, winning the Fastest Bed-Making Award. Then in 2016, she received one of Banff Lodging Co.’s highest accolades for her work – the Young Caribou Award for Employee of the Year.

“We focus on quality, how to make things nicely. If someone is a hard worker, it is okay if they have no housekeeping experience. We’re a very busy team, but we help new staff learn at their own pace. We want staff to feel comfortable,” Wii says.

Since starting work at The Ptarmigan Inn five years ago, Wii has enjoyed excellent mentorship from Ana, Executive Manager of Housekeeping. Wii is now viewed as a team mentor in her own right – and she credits Ana for the skills she has learned to support and teach her own colleagues.

On a typical day, Wii supervises 4-5 housekeeping teams, focusing on high-quality work and collaboration. You’ll find her working with the teams to make beds, managing staff to help other groups, and checking in with each group throughout the day to help wherever it’s needed.

So if you see Wii while visiting The Ptarmigan Inn, be sure to say hello – just don’t challenge her to a bed-making competition!
